Ever since I was a little boy, I have been involved with art in various forms, including drawing, painting, wood, metal, ceramics, and carved stone. I was fortunate to grow up in an artisan town in Mexico, where I learned the encouraged development of art. Since I was convinced to do something creative.
His contemporary artwork draws inspiration from impressionism, abstract, cubism, and figurative art. Through distinctive compositions, Mercado reflects on everyday life experiences, perceptions, and emotions. His recent series, 'The Vessel of Prosperity,' has been inaugurated as a permanent collection at El Tucan Gallery. By blending acrylic paints with various artistic techniques and philosophical insights from his book 'Donde está mi sombrero,' Mercado brings profound ideas to life.

His work offers unique perspectives on current subjects, inviting viewers to experience them through their visionary lens. All creations result from art history to innovative approaches, by blending traditional art with modern art and bringing profound and intense ideas to life.

I start my compositions with digital art, often depicting portraits as my favorite subject. My artwork combines abstract and surrealist styles. I paint with the intention of capturing the intangible feeling, portraying my composition as something that feels like it is not changing or moving, as if time has stopped.
Luis A. Mercado "Nene" | Artist & Author
Born in Guadalajara and raised in Yahualica, Jalisco—a town steeped in artisanal mastery—Luis Mercado (Nene) developed an early, tactile relationship with art through wood, metal, and stone. This foundational craftsmanship, rooted in Mexican tradition, has evolved into a sophisticated contemporary practice that blends digital precision with the raw power of geometric abstraction.
Based in Richmond, California, Nene’s work is a study in "The Geometry of Intention." His process is a profound dialogue between technology and tradition: beginning with digital blueprints and photography, he translates intangible emotions into structured compositions. For Nene, art is an act of going inwards-an essential pause to resignify life experiences and transform past challenges into areas of opportunity.
For Nene, 2025 stands as a definitive "Year of Attainment"—a period of uninterrupted creative and professional triumph. This year culminated in the acquisition of his landmark series, The Vessel of Prosperity. This six-piece collection was officially inaugurated as a Permanent Collection at the prestigious El Tucan, cementing his role as a visual anchor in the contemporary art scene.
Recently featured in Bold Journey Magazine, Mercado’s narrative is defined by resilience and the belief that "gratitude is the currency of the universe." His rapid ascent is marked by three pivotal solo exhibitions that have redefined his trajectory:
Beyond the canvas, Mercado explores the philosophy of achievement through his upcoming first book, "Donde está mi sombrero." This literary work decodes his artistic process into a metaphor for personal success, analyzing how geometry and order serve as a blueprint for human triumph and the belief that learning has no limits.
With international recognition in publications like Milan Weekly Magazine, Artist Close Up, and Bold Journey, Nene continues to push the "final edge of the canvas," inviting viewers to experience the stillness of clarity and the power of a journey that always honors its roots.
