How my art journey started.
Ever since I was a little boy, I have been involved with art in various forms, including drawing, painting, wood, metal, ceramics, and carved stone. I was fortunate to grow up in an artisan town in Mexico, where I learned the encouraged development of art. Since I was convinced to do something creative.

I start my compositions with digital art, often depicting portraits as my favorite subject. My artwork combines abstract and surrealist styles. I paint with the intention of capturing the intangible feeling, portraying my composition as something that feels like it is not changing or moving, as if time has stopped.

Philosophy & The Geometry of Intention; Based in Richmond, California, Nene’s work is a profound study in "The Geometry of Intention." His process is a disciplined dialogue between technology and tradition: beginning with digital blueprints and photography, he translates intangible emotions into structured compositions. Central to this visual lexicon is the Heardioid—a geometric sanctuary where the heart retains its voice when language falters under the weight of experience. For Nene, art is a restorative act of inward reflection, an essential pause to resignify life’s challenges and transform them into monumental structures of opportunity.
Public Narrative & Social Stratigraphy; As a muralist with over two decades of experience, Nene translates this geometric precision into the public sphere, viewing the urban canvas as a "Social Stratigraphy" where layers of color and form document collective history. His practice, which began in 1999, has evolved into large-scale monumental structures that redefine urban environments through a solid presence in Northern California, the Central Coast, and an international projection in regions such as the state of Guerrero, Mexico. His murals (reaching dimensions upwards of 48 feet) integrate cultural symbolism and industrial heritage with the vitality of the community, creating urban-scale Heardioids that serve as visual refuges and engines of local identity.
The Year of Attainment & Global Horizons; The current cycle stands as a definitive "Year of Attainment" for Nene—a period of uninterrupted creative and professional growth. This stage was marked by the acquisition of his landmark series, The Vessel of Prosperity, now part of a Permanent Collection at the prestigious El Tucán, cementing his role as a visual anchor in the contemporary art scene. His narrative of resilience has garnered significant international attention, recently featured by the Japan-based curatorial platform AATONAU and documented in global publications such as Milan Weekly Magazine, Artist Close Up, and Bold Journey Magazine.
Looking forward, Mercado is developing his most ambitious series to date, Architectures of Ascent, in preparation for his international debut at the Greyfriars Edinburgh Art Fair in Scotland (October 2026). Through his upcoming book, Donde está mi sombrero, and his evolving canvas, Nene continues to push the "final edge," inviting viewers to experience the stillness of clarity and the power of a journey that always honors its roots.
